Alicante's transportation network

The Province of Alicante is perfectly connected with the rest of the national territories through a wide network of communications.

The investments made to improve and expand roads, especially in the hundreds of kilometres of highways, have not only enhanced the transportation within the Province of Alicante, but also between Alicante and the rest of Spain.
                                                                                
Getting to the Costa Blanca is easy by land, sea or air.

Highways

The province of Alicante, located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea extends for 219 kms.

The capital of the province, Alicante, is located by highway:

• 182 km from Valencia
• 432 km from Madrid
• 544 km from Barcelona

Highways to the Costa Blanca are as follows:

• A-7, the Mediterranean highway (toll)
• N-332, a national highway along the coast, connecting the cities of Denia, Benidorm, Altea, Alicante and Elche
• N-330, a national highway that travels from the center of Spain

Buses

Alicante’s bus station offers:

• Regular international lines to the rest of Europe
• Regular frequent national lines to the province and to the rest of Spain.

The Bus Station building was renovated at the end of 2003. There are plans in the near future to integrate it with the new Intermodal Station for trains and buses.

Railways

The city of Alicante offers railway connections with the main Spanish and European cities.

There is also a narrow-gauge railway that travels along the Costa Blanca from Alicante to Denia, stopping in Villajoyosa, Altea, Teulada and Denia.

The train station is located in downtown Alicante. It offers direct connections with the primary train stations in Spain and indirect connections with other European destinations:

• Direct connection with France via Euromed (along the Mediterranean corridor)
• Direct connection with Madrid via Altaria

The train station is currently being remodelled and will become the new integrated Intermodal Station for Trains and Buses

At the same time, construction is under way for a High Speed Train (Madrid-Alicante) that will connect Madrid with the Costa Blanca in a mere two hours, cutting current travel time by 50%.

Ships

The city of Alicante is connected with Oran (Argelia) via a direct Ferry. In addition, there is a ferry between Denia and Ibiza.

Alicante offers a direct line to the Island of Tabarca.

Along with the ferries, there are various cruises that regularly stop in Alicante.

It is an approximate 5 minute walk from the port to downtown.

Airplanes

The Costa Blanca airport is located in Alicante. Known as El Altet, is situated only 12 km from downtown Alicante.

El Altet has daily flights to the main Spanish and European cities. Either directly, or with a stop over, it is possible to arrive at any national or international destination.

In addition, the airport registers a significant number of charter flights transporting a great number of passengers.

El Altet is among the most important airports in Spain. The considerable increase in volume of passengers and air traffic has led to the current remodelling effort to expand the airport’s facilities.
